If it wasn't so CPU intensive, I believe I would still be a part of the Fruity Family. Never worked for me and always crashed on rendering X Īt 1/15/15 11:47 AM, dem0lecule wrote: At 1/15/15 11:37 AM, Vii wrote: I'm well aware that you can link automation clips in FL studio, but the whole process of doing so is arduous compared to Ableton Live.Īlso the video player was complete rubbish I agree.
In Ableton you really save a lot of time with macros and linking everything together. The things that bothers me most I FL and Logic Pro, is that automation design. (Spag Heddy proved me wrong) All it took was patience I guess.Ībout it not being a DAW for newbies I'd have to say its easy on the eye and more intuitive that most DAWS (Just at beginning). I just didn't find making dubstep or that heavy bass music feasible in FL. After a while I felt that my music just wasn't going to improve in FL (I got peer pressured from friends using Ableton and Live Logic Pro), so I switched to Ableton Live. FL Studio was the first DAW I started with and it was brilliant.
Honestly I would recommend FL too (even though I'm 100% for Ableton Live and Logic Pro). Still, it gets the job done for me and then some, and doesn't deserve its reputation as the DAW for "newbies". Not gonna lie, I'm biased I haven't tried any other music software. This is a big deal, since tons of composers out there need plugins like the video player when scoring films, and having this nearly unusable scoring plugin undoubtedly deters people from an otherwise great piece of software.Īnyway, regardless of that, I always recommend FL to anyone. really?), but it only works with SWF half of the time, is a buggy mess and god forbid you have a tempo automation clip in your track or it'll go ballistic. Not only does it accept so little file formats (it accepts WMV but not MP4. If there's one gripe I have with it, though, it's the god-awful video player.

You also really can't beat the lifetime free updates. The interface, the design, the amazing piano roll, everything.

I also used some notation software like Finale back in the day, but otherwise it has been just FL. The only DAW I've ever used is FL Studio. Several artists/general members of the public strive to inculcate that one DAW is superior, just because. Also FL Studio did take up a significant amount of CPU compared to Ableton Live and Logic Pro.īut in the end, they all accomplish the same thing, it's mainly your arrangement and musicians ear that counts. With that being said, it's stock plug-ins are rubbish (besides vocodex which was brilliant). To be honest I miss Fruity Loops for its exquisite layout and the quick editing tools.

FL Studio wasn't compatible fully so I made the switch to Logic Pro and Ableton Live. I found a deal online for a Macbook Pro with all this software included for only £300.
Little did I know that there were other brilliant DAW's out there (such as Ableton Live & Logic Pro). I started out with FL Studio because I thought every artist used it. Whether it's Logic Pro, Cubase, FL Studio, Ableton Live, or some other fifth DAW. I'm interested in your input on which DAW you find to be a better choice.
